In 1970 it was the first gentleman’s magazine printed in braille.

Regardless of all the influence and revolutionizing Playboy has done during history, it is undeniably history’s synonym for porn. Since in our time porn is easily distributable, searched, and enjoyed online, the need for a printed magazine has become near to obsolete. With that in mind, Playboy needed something new, interesting, to keep its customers occupied and dedicated to the bunny brand. Along with the official web site, Playboy created an online version of their magazine, Playboy Digital. The entire Playboy archive can be found online. But even before the internet era, Playboy has launched The Playboy Channel, an American, adults-only premium cable TV network, 35 years ago. In 1989, seven years into existence they changed the name to Playboy TV, and the network expanded their regular 8 pm to 6 am playtime to a 24-hour schedule five years later.

 

What is a true Playboy playmate?

At its outset, it was imagined as a motion picture version of the magazine, featuring interviews, celebrity news, men’s fashion and other segments that are usually featured in the magazine itself. Gradually they came to feature softcore porn presenting beautiful gorgeous girls, and just as Hefner himself said, “. . . we are not interested in the mysterious, difficult woman, the femme fatale, who wears elegant underwear, with lace, and she is sad, and somehow mentally filthy. The Playboy girl has no lace, no underwear, she is naked, well washed with soap and water, and she is happy,” in an interview by Oriana Fallaci, Look Magazine, January 1967, describing what a Playmate girl is and always will be.
